Review: Revlon Lip Butters VS. Maybelline Baby lips (w/ lip swatches !)

Hey girls!

So the other day I was at the drug store and picked up a few of the new Revlon lip butters as well as the Maybelline Baby Lips and I will share my thoughts of them with you (:

1. Packaging

Revlon definitely beat Maybelline in this round. Even though the baby lips have very cute and vibrant packaging, the cap feels somewhat loose and flimsy in the hands. On the other hand, the lip butters have a very chic feel to them. In addition to its sleek silver body, the quitted pattern on the cap gives it more class even though it is made out of plastic as well.

2. Scent

Even though both products have ADORABLE an DELICIOUS names(refer to captions above), the baby lips is the clear winner in scent. Cherry Me smells just like the cherry KoolAid I used to drink in elementary school and Pink Punch smells like (just like its name) Fruit Punch! I absolutely love the scent of Pink Punch, it might just be my favourite scent in lip products!

On the other hand, while Revlon delivers with scrumptious names, the lip butters actually don't at all. (Well maybe a bit powdery like how lipsticks smell?) I was actually quite disappointed because I would have died to have my lips smell like creme brulee!!

3. Colour Pay off

Now on to the swatches!!
First off Maybelline, I have to say I actually wasn't expecting much with these were marketed mainly as lip balms with a tint of colour. Actually, they were not bad at all. They are quite easy to apply but because my lips are very pigmented to begin with, Cherry Me hardly shows up at all. Here are the swatches below:

I have inserted a picture of my bare lips for reference.

Next are the Revlon Lip Butters, now these were marketed as a hybrid between lip stick and lip balm so I expected the colour pay off to be better than that of the baby lips. These were very to work with as well, but the lip butters are very soft so be careful not to use too much pressure. Below are the swatches:

Creme Brulee

Lollipop

As you can see, it is clear that the colour pay off for the Lip butters are much superior than the baby lips. The lasting power is also longer for the lip butters for the same reason.

Now because my lips are highly pigmented, I have included a swatch of all four colours on my hand below:
(Top to bottom) Lollipop, Creme Brulee, Cherry Me, Pink Punch
4. Moisturising properties

Actually, I think I would have to declare a tie in this round. Both lip products are very smooth and easy to use and my lips always look softer than before I applied them. But I should mention that the Baby Lips might win marginally due to the fact that it has SPF 20! This is a great little bonus as this is perfect for when summer time rolls around.

Conclusions

While the Revlon Lip Butters are more than double the price of the baby lips, I would still highly recommend them for someone whole likes colour but find lip sticks too drying. I love the packaging and the colour pay off  as they are just like lipsticks!(especially Lollipop!)

With regards to the Maybelline baby lips, I recommend these to younger girls who are just getting into lip colour or someone who is looking for a good moisturising lip balm with a tint of colour. Also I love the fact that it has SPF 20 to protect your lips.

I carry both of these in my bag and I find myself grabbing for the baby lips more on a daily basis as the colours are more subtle and natural. But for night outs, I grab the lip butters without any hesitation!!

All in all, I think these are both great products that definitely deserve all the hype!

P.S: Thank you so much for reading my FIRST blog post!!  Please feel free to leave any comments or suggestions so I can  improve in the future (:
